Basic Information:

Name: Setoshi, Maya. [Pronounced "My-ah"]
Nickname: Mai. [Pronounced "My"]
Age: 13.
Gender: Female.
Clan: N/A.

Appearance:

Hair Color: Crimson red, seemingly lighter in the sun.
Eye Color: Sea blue.
Distinguishing Features: A misleading face, as "Little Miss Muffet" incorrectly describes her personality. The thick hair, kept in tight ringlets, wide-open eyes that seem to capture everything; Mai's physical features are easy to recognize, and difficult to forget.
Common Outfit: There is no definite way to describe Mai's preference when it comes to her attire. Rather than to dress herself in the old-fashioned way of the shinobi, her choice is much different. A loose white blouse with an even more unrestrained skirt, Mai believes in overdressing, despite the attire expectations from the higher officials.

Spoiler:

Professional Outfit: Not much different from her common outfit, Mai attends to missions and professional activity in her ludicrous clothes. Only when the weather is a threat, she puts on a cloak; one that's slightly easier on the eyes.
Spoiler:

Specific Articles: Despite the weather, Mai carries around with her a petite umbrella. Both of her arms are loosely bandaged, from her shoulders to the tips of her fingers.

Personality:

Overview: Honourable and devious, Mai's personality is a delicate mixture of questionable values and beliefs. There is elegance in her behaviour as class and reputation pose as important "threats" to her. She is ruthless and cunning, but reasonable enough to see the line not meant to be crossed. Mai prefers to be with a crowd of people, as she demands attention from others at all times.

A trait developed in her early years, Mai can become excessively obedient to anything and anyone she deems important or brings her happiness. With this in mind, Mai can also be very obsessive to the point where the object of her obsession is on her mind 24/7. Obedience is something she has gained from this experience, but as with her obsessions, it often gets out of hand.

On the other hand, the lack of an older sibling/role model has led to an increase in her independence. Despite the fact that attention is something Mai would happily take, she won't protest to a moment of solitude. Having established that, there are quiet moments in her life when she tends to keep to herself.
Likes:
  • Overdressing.
  • Overreacting.
  • Overexaggerating.
  • Independence.

Dislikes:
  • Lack of attention from others.
  • The unsanitary.
  • People who talk more than she does.
  • New experiences.
  • Expectations.

Philosophy: The inevitable loss of innocence has hit Mai through the harsh reality of life. Having experienced little, she believes there's only two different types of realities; real, and what a person figures is real- the philosophy of a mere child.
Nindo: Love all, hate a few, but do wrong to no one.
Friends: N/A yet.
Enemies/Rivals: N/A yet.

Rank Information:

Rank: Genin. [C-rank]
Village: Kusagakure No Sato. [Hidden Grass]
Squad: N/A.

Special Information:

Strengths:
  • High stamina rate.
  • Excels in mind-games.
  • Persuasive.

Weaknesses:
  • Tactical planning.
  • Extremely emotional, almost vulnerable.
  • Puts forth her trust in a few.

Skill Specialties: Ninjutsu.
Elemental Affinities: Suiton.
Special Characteristics: Mai is capable of delicate handling, making her extremely skilled with the senbon.

History:

Rogue Arc - Baby Steps

Born into a rather fastidious family, Mai was raised in a high-class environment with idealist, yet attentive guardians. She was often unable to indicate which of the women tending to her was her birth mother, as she spent her childhood with numerous other ladies. Caregivers of Mai's health and safety took pleasure in discussing the baby's future and conversing on how to raise her. Mai didn't have a mother; she had several.

However, as protective and efficient these several mothers sounded, it was almost too much, as it had caused some psychological damage to the child. The ladies argued daily and disagreements varied from the food she was fed to the clothes on her back. They quarrled as if the child was theirs. It had led her to believe that all the women tending to her were for her use to however she saw fit. They were secretly her assistants.

Physically, Mai flourished into a tender young girl, but her mind-set was inconsistently developing the other way. The frame of her body could not be compared to her childish disposition, despite her age. Mai loved power, and hated when she was opposed or neglected. She demanded constant attention and the ladies were more than happy to oblige.

Her grandmother now had sole custody of Mai after her mother incomprehensively disappeared [or so they believe] and to the ladies' disbelief, anything and everything they did for Mai had to be discussed with her grandmother beforehand. It wasn't before long that she developed frustration towards the massive amounts of caregivers. Many were fired, or assigned to different parts of the house. Anything and everything but monitoring the health and safety of Mai.

It wasn't long until Mai was able to comprehend what her grandmother was aiming for all these years with her dismissal of the ladies. Coming from a long line of family devoted to shinobi lifestyle, her grandmother's goal was to enroll Mai in the Ninja Academy. Of course, Mai's birth parents weren't too keen on exposing their daughter to the world of shinobi, so seldom did they allow her grandmother to visit. However, with Mai's mother gone, her father had no power, or say, when the grandmother took over raising her only granddaughter.

Academy Student Arc - School Life

Comfortable with the luxurious life she lived, the Academy environment was nowhere close to meeting Mai's excessive standards. Emotionally, she was enraged at her grandmother for taking away her play toys, and it didn't take much for her anger to reach a new height, realizing what she had done to her.

The teachers took note of Mai's relation to her grandmother, and predicted she would excel in her academics. However, the long line of family tradition was broken when they uncovered her true potential, which, sad to say, wasn't much. Often she argued with the teachers and disagreed to many things. Mai's reputation was damaged as her peers thought of her as nothing more than a sack of potatos.

But for Mai, family diversity was even more distressing to deal with. Her grandmother refused to take her out of the Academy but her responses were calm and serene. She showed no means of hurting her granddaughter and not a single word of abuse or neglect left her lips when talking to Mai.

Wearing the same irritated face as she wore the first day, Mai continued to attend the Academy with a bitter mind-set. As much as she wanted to leave the class, she couldn't help but to take her grandmother's feelings into consideration. There was no difference in the way she was treated by the ladies and her grandmother, Mai felt the need to obey her wishes, regardless of how distasteful it was.

Genin Arc - Growing Up

Having graduated, Mai was now being introduced to her many family members. The ladies had also opposed the idea of living a shinobi life, but anyone who showed opposition towards the grandmother's decisions were disposed of.

However, the more Mai grew, the more ladies her grandmother dismissed. The years certainly haven't been kind to Mai, but she had managed to strengthen her tolerance level for her grandmother. Seldom did she see her father and those precious minutes wouldn't last long, as they would be inconveniently interuppted by her grandmother. Again, she showed no harm to Mai, but her overprotectiveness insisted that her eyes should be on Mai, at all times.

Role-Playing Demonstration:

Quote :
There definitely was boiling anger. Then again, anger always boiled, and depending on the highness of said boiled anger, a person can resort to such stupid acts. Sometimes regrettable, but regret wasn’t able to make a way into Sia’s head. Perhaps it was too weak to survive the heated temperature of her insides, or knew its efforts were futile to even think she’d admit to regretting anything.

It would be reasonable to think her hot-head, along with her unusually high body heat would somehow melt the surrounding snow covering her whole body, but the mass amount made it impossible to do such a possible act. Despite the snow’s colour, everything she could lay her tired eyes upon was dark, except for small holes above her head [so she thinks] which shone upon her, a lighter darkness, compared to the rest.

Everything, up to the meeting was memorable to some extent, but all events leading afterwards were too vague to remember. Perhaps she’d hit her head on a rock before tumbling down into a heap of snow? There were many reasons as to why she was placed in this “hole,” and the best situation was to get out before hypothermia wanted to visit. For someone with such unbalanced anger issues, Sia could determine what to do next, as if it was easy to figure out left from right.

Standing on legs was hard enough, let alone having to walk. Every inch of her body was extremely cold; maybe the anger didn’t boil hot enough. Her strides could be defined as something an entertainer would do, but funny, or not, she was getting somewhere. The area wasn’t someplace she knew well, but Sia was able to get herself inside the headquarters, as the trip had aided her in defrosting of her bones.

There was no time to announce her entry; she could barely speak. Her vocal chords seemed raspy, having silenced them for who knows how long. She was regaining her strength as her body seemed to adjust to the correct temperature. Making her way to, what seemed to be like the individual rooms, Sia mindlessly stepped in, realizing her guesses were wrong.

The scene before her looked like an image from the “old” days; if she’d acquired black and white vision, it would look like something ripped off from a western movie, guessing the cowboys back then knew how to read, she thought, as her gaze fell upon the heap of books, collecting dust on the table. The bar was so coincidentally placed, and with her brain not working up to its full capacity, she could only imagine she was being punked. However, one dominant image shook all silly possibilities out of her head.

Sia couldn’t tell if he’d seen her, or was just trying to avoid her. Knowing he was the only one who knew all of the answers to her ongoing questions, Sia walked over to him, standing behind his chair as she placed her hands over his shoulders. She wondered if he’d be able to feel her cold hands through his armour.

“So, master,” Sia began, hoping he’d notice the impatience in her voice, “If you turn around, you’d see one of your own members, drenched in water, soaked to the bone, and freezing cold.” Although the fact that he was responsible for this was highly doubtable, Sia wasn’t taking any chances. “I was in a hole,” she started again, with no signs of backing off, “And covered in snow, if you already haven’t noticed. And for the duration of that time, I was probably unconscious, or asleep. I go with the first, seeing as how I’m not capable of sleeping for so long. But then again, who exactly knows how long I’ve been in there?”

Sia was growing more and more frustrated by each word, and wondered if she’d lose it in front of her own boss. Hoping it wouldn’t come to that, she spoke more calmly. “If it was for a while, surely you would’ve noticed my absence. I hope I do have the tiniest place in your head occupied. I’m just wondering why you haven’t come for me, or even had other members to find me.” She knew she was skating on thin ice with her last comment.

“After being in a hole for a while, my frustration did possibly grow a few more times, and I just want answers.”
